\n\tIt all comes down to power. Mopeds are considered ‘less powerful’ vehicles, therefore, the age at which a driver can operate one is fixed at 16. If an individual wanted to ride a motorbike the permitted age would be 17, due to the increase in power of the vehicle.
\n\tDue to the varying levels of power, cars are in a different classification to mopeds. The potential to cause harm on the road with a car is greater than that of a moped. Therefore, the age limit to operate a car is raised to 17.<\/p>\n

\n\tHowever, it is worth noting that the age limit for cars is subject to change. Ongoing discussions between the DVSA and the Government could lead to the age limit for holding a provisional licence and taking a theory test being raised to 18.<\/p>\n
